Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (2021)
Genius, incisive, hilarious, tragic social/political/pandemic commentary and proof that it's not only Americans who're ready to disembowel each other to impose their self-righteous dumbfuck opinions. From Radu Jude, who wrote and directed the masterpiece "Eastern," AFERIM!
Expect lots of nothing to happen in any Romanian film; this one features a deadpan Godard homage as the heroine, a teacher who's being hounded from her job because someone posted a sex tape of her online, strolls around Bucharest, seemingly aimlessly. Director Jude, who made the masterpiece AFERIM!, swings the camera around to every commercial sign and billboard, indicting capitalism for the bottomless stupidity of the citizenry.
But that's only the first quarter. Then come a series of brilliant 60-second filmic essays – in the spirit of another Romanian masterwork, POLICE ADJECTIVE – and the too-accurate-to-bear MAGA/Fox News attacks on the teacher by the privileged parents of her students.
Pretty much the most intelligent, embittered film I've seen in years, fueled by vast erudition and that bleak, bleak, knowing, heartbroken Eastern European sense of humor and fatalism.
